Most people are candidates for mesotherapy. However, there are several important medical as well as psychological considerations. In the first place, mesotherapy is not a replacement for exercise. It is a supplement, not a replacement. Having mesotherapy performed would be as useless as drinking a protein shake without exercise in the hopes that a protein shake would build muscle. We tend to discourage anyone who is not actively exercising from having this procedure. A person with a history of Diabetes, Type I or Type II, should not have mesotherapy, as there may be an increased risk of infection. In a similar fashion, a person with a history of immunologic diseases or extensive skin conditions [such as eczema, psoriasis, etc] should consider alternate approaches. Although there is at present no published literature to support this notion, it is conceivable that individuals afflicted with these conditions may have an increased risk of skin infection abscess formation. Mesotherapy is not a recommended treatment for minors. Patients with a history of body image distortions, such as Body Dysmorphic Syndrome, should consider other types of therapy. The goal of the patient, and the expectations of the patient, must be realistic, as mesotherapy is not a “meso-miracle”. In the proper hands, and with the right patient selection, mesotherapy may help further your results.
